Visa Documents for Retired Applicants

What to provide when you are retired (pension, savings, no employment).

Retired applicants

Visa officers want to see a stable income and that you can afford the trip. For retirees, that usually means pension and/or savings.

Documents that help

  • Pension statements – regular pension income (e.g. last 3–6 months or annual summary)
  • Bank statements – savings and pension deposits (e.g. 3–6 months)
  • Letter – short letter stating you are retired, your sources of income (pension, investments, savings), and that you can fund the trip. Use our Proof of Funds Summary template
  • Property or assets – if you rely on savings, show where they come from (sale of property, inheritance, etc.) if relevant
  • Ties to home – family, property, that you will return

Tips

  • Match the income and dates in your letter to your pension and bank documents
  • If you have a sponsor (e.g. child abroad), use a Sponsorship Letter and their proof of funds
