Schengen Visa: Writing a Strong Cover Letter

What to include in your Schengen visa cover letter.

Schengen cover letter

A short cover letter explains your purpose, itinerary, and that you will leave before the visa expires. It ties your application together.

What to include

  • Your details – name, passport number, nationality, dates of travel
  • Purpose – tourism, business, family visit, etc.
  • Itinerary – main destinations and dates (can be summary)
  • Accommodation – where you will stay (hotels or host)
  • Funding – who pays and that you have sufficient funds
  • Closing – that the information is true and you will comply with visa conditions

Tips

  • One to two pages; formal and clear
  • Match dates and names to your other documents (invitation, insurance, accommodation)
  • Check the specific embassy’s requirements; some ask for the letter in a particular format
