Schengen

Schengen Visa: Proof of Funds and Bank Statements

How to show sufficient funds for a Schengen visa.

Proof of funds for Schengen

You must show you can pay for your trip: transport, accommodation, and daily expenses. Requirements vary by country and length of stay.

What to provide

  • Bank statements – usually 3–6 months; stamped/signed if the embassy requires
  • Salary or income – employment letter, payslips, tax returns, or business documents
  • Sponsor – if someone else pays: sponsorship letter and their bank statements and proof of income
  • Summary letter – optional but helpful: one document that states your (or sponsor’s) sources of funds and current balance

Tips

  • Statements must show your name and be recent (often within 7–14 days of application)
  • Explain any large or unusual deposits in a short note or in the cover letter
  • If sponsored, the sponsor’s documents must be as strong as if you were self-funded

Use our Proof of Funds Summary template and attach the bank and employment documents your destination embassy requires.
