Visa Documents for Self-Employed Applicants

What to provide when you are self-employed or run your own business.

Why it’s different

Visa officers are used to employment letters and payslips. When you are self-employed, you need to show your business is real, profitable, and that you have enough income/savings for the trip.

Documents that help

  • Business registration – certificate, tax registration, or licence
  • Tax returns – recent years if available
  • Bank statements – both business and personal (e.g. 3–6 months)
  • Letter on letterhead – describing your business, your role, income, and that you will return to run it. Use our Employment Verification style but as “self-employment verification” or a short business letter
  • Proof of funds – summary of income and savings; use our Proof of Funds Summary template

What to explain

  • What your business does and how long you have run it
  • That the business will continue in your absence (e.g. who covers, or that it can pause)
  • That your travel is temporary and you will return to your business

Tips

  • Match the income and dates in your letter to your tax and bank documents
  • If your income varies, explain that (e.g. seasonal work) and show average or recent months
  • Invitation letter and accommodation proof still matter; tie your trip dates to your business commitments at home
