When and how to use Form I-134 and a sponsor letter for a US visa.

Affidavit of Support (Form I-134)

For visitor and student visas, a sponsor in the US may complete Form I-134 to show they will support your trip or studies.

What the sponsor provides

  • Form I-134 – signed, with supporting evidence (employment letter, tax returns, bank statements)
  • Proof of status – US passport, green card, or visa
  • Proof of income – W-2s, tax returns, employment letter
  • Letter – relationship to you, what they will cover (travel, accommodation, tuition), and that they can afford it

Your documents

  • Invitation letter from sponsor (if applicable)
  • Your own proof of ties to home country
  • Evidence that you intend to return (job, family, property)
