B-1 business visa
B-1 is for business activities such as meetings, negotiations, conferences, and training. You cannot work or receive payment from a US source.
Documents to prepare
- DS-160, fee, photo, passport
- Letter from your employer – your role, purpose of trip, dates, that you will return
- Invitation from US host – company name, contact person, purpose and dates of meetings
- Proof of funds – who pays (employer or you); bank statements, employment letter
- Travel itinerary – cities, dates, main activities
- Ties to home country – job, family, property
What to avoid
- Any suggestion of productive work in the US or payment from a US employer
- Vague purpose; be specific about meetings and attendees
