USA B1/B2 Visa: Documents to Prepare

What to prepare and bring for your US visitor visa interview.

B1/B2 visa basics

B1 = business (meetings, conferences, negotiations). B2 = tourism, family visit, medical. Many applicants receive a combined B1/B2 visa.

Before the interview

  • DS-160 – complete online and bring the confirmation page
  • Visa fee – pay and keep the receipt (MRV)
  • Photo – 2×2 inches, US visa photo requirements
  • Passport – valid at least 6 months beyond your stay (unless exempt)

Documents to bring (originals + copies where useful)

  • Proof of funds – bank statements (e.g. 3–6 months), tax returns, employment letter
  • Employment – letter from employer (role, salary, leave approval)
  • Travel plan – itinerary, purpose, accommodation
  • Ties to home country – job, family, property, anything showing you will return
  • If sponsored – Form I-134 (Affidavit of Support), sponsor’s proof of income and status

What the officer is assessing

  • That you are a genuine visitor (tourism/business/family, not to work or stay)
  • That you will leave the US after your trip (strong ties to home country)
  • That you have enough money (or a credible sponsor) for the trip

Interview tips

  • Answer clearly and briefly; bring documents in order so you can show them if asked
  • Do not bring fake or misleading documents
  • If a document is missing, use our Explanation for Missing Document template and bring alternative evidence where you can
