Visa Letters for Students (No Income)

How to show funds and intent when you are a student with no regular income.

The challenge

Students often have no salary or steady income. Visa officers want to see who pays for the trip and that the money is real and available.

What to show instead of income

  • Sponsor letter – from parent, relative, or guardian stating they will pay for travel, accommodation, and expenses
  • Sponsor’s proof – bank statements, employment letter, or tax documents
  • Your own savings – if you have savings (e.g. from part-time work, gifts), show statements and explain the source
  • Scholarship or grant – if your studies or travel are funded, provide the award letter and terms

Letter types that help

  • Sponsorship Letter or Affidavit of Support from the person paying
  • Proof of Funds Summary – naming the sponsor and attaching their proof
  • Statement of Purpose (SOP) – for study visas: course, funding, and return plans

Tips

  • Be clear: “My father/mother [name] will fund this trip. He/she has attached bank statements and employment letter.”
  • If you have a scholarship, use our Scholarship Letter template (or get one from your institution).
  • Show strong ties to your home country (family, course, intent to return after studies or after the visit).
