UK Visa Invitation Letter: Sample & What to Include

UK visa invitation letter from a host. What to include, sample text, and template for Standard Visitor applications.

What is a UK visa invitation letter?

An invitation letter for a visa is written by your host in the destination country. It confirms that they are inviting you, the dates of your stay, where you will stay, and often that they will support you financially or with accommodation. Many embassies require this for visitor, family, or business visas when you have a host. For the UK Standard Visitor visa, if you are staying with a friend or relative, the host usually provides an invitation letter and proof of their address and status.

What the host should include

  • Host’s full name, address, and contact details.

  • Guest’s full name and relationship to the host.

  • Dates of the visit and purpose (e.g. tourism, family).

  • Where the guest will stay (host’s address).

  • Whether the host will provide accommodation or financial support.

  • Signature and date.

Example (excerpt)

I, [Host name], of [address], invite [Guest name] to stay with me from [date] to [date]. [Guest] is my [relation]. I will provide accommodation at the above address. I have attached a copy of my passport and proof of address.
