Visa Sponsorship Letter: Template & How to Write

How to write a visa sponsorship or financial support letter. What to include, sample, and template for any country.

What is a visa sponsorship letter?

A visa sponsorship or financial support letter is written by the person or organisation that will fund your trip or studies. It states their relationship to you, their commitment to cover your expenses, and often includes proof of their ability to pay (referencing attached bank statements or employment letters). Embassies use it to assess whether you have adequate funds.

What to include

  • Sponsor’s full name, relationship to the applicant, and contact details.

  • A clear statement that they will cover the applicant’s expenses (travel, accommodation, living costs, or tuition if for a student visa).

  • Reference to attached proof (bank statements, employment letter, tax returns) and duration of support.

  • Signature and date.

Example (excerpt)

I, [Name], am the [parent/spouse/friend] of [Applicant]. I confirm that I will fully fund [Applicant]’s [trip/studies] in [country] from [date] to [date]. I have attached my bank statements and employment letter as proof of funds. I understand that [Applicant] must comply with all visa conditions.
